First off let me say this, I really like Caitlin Daire and I have enjoyed reading books from her but I had a difficult time reading TEASE. The premise of the story was not unusual from her and I was excited to read. I am giving her 3 stars because the story was there but I had a few issues. I was going to rate it a 2 but she did redeem herself with the twist story line.
The relationship between Cade and Charlotte was tense to say the least. He bullied her while they were younger and even after he moved away the torment continued. Charlotte was an outcast and even abandoned by her so called friends to avoid being bullied by association. It wasn't until she developed a spine and begun defending herself that the situation changed. However, the damage was done and her scars ran deep.
When Cade and Charlotte meet again it's because Cade's father is engaged to Charlotte's mother and within 6 weeks they will be step-siblings. Before they realize this they have a sexy/embarrassing bedroom encounter that leads to a bit of confusion for Charlotte. How can this man who tormented her throughout childhood be so sensitive? Hmm.
Upon the realization of who each other is, you can imagine the tension between the two.
Here is where it all falls apart for me. You'd think Charlotte would harbor some very deep scars and hatred for Cade but nope. There was some tension but I was expecting explosions and loads of fireworks. Meanwhile, Cade was dumbfounded at why Charlotte would hate him. Yes, he teased her and played tricks on her but in his mind nothing that would cause her to hate him and blame him for ruining her life. There was a huge opportunity here to lead the reader on but Cade's brother reveal's the (at this point tiny secret) secret to Charlotte. Once she is aware of the secret it was as if none of the torment happened.
Another issue I have is the dialog between Cade and Charlotte is way too cheesy. When they are having the "talk" about their past, it took everything I had to get through it. Then again by the campfire at the ski resort. It felt like bad acting, really bad acting.
There was a glimmer of hope with the twist. This part of the story line was probably my favorite. When we got the first clue I was so excited! Then, when the storm hit (there wasn't actually a storm) I knew, I just knew. This was the best part.
Once the storm hit, I liked the story better.
Please don't think I hated TEASE because I didn't It just didn't work for me and you have no idea how much I hate to write that I don't like a book. Author's pour their heart and soul in to their writing and work very hard and I have the up most respect for them.
I love Caitlin and will continue to read her books.
