Has society conditioned us to expect doors to just open when we approach?

While out shopping yesterday I had quite an embarrassing moment and luckily there was only one person who witnessed the event.

I had spent all day shopping at various craft and retail stores preparing for the beginning of the school year. I also visited my mother in law at the rehabilitation center, she is recovering from a stroke. Reflecting on my day and all the places I visited I have become aware that not one store required me to manually open the door to enter the store; that is except one. This is where "the event" as I have come to call it happened. After checking out and gathering my purchases I walked to the entrance/exit and without realizing it, I stopped and waited for the doors to open. It took  just a few seconds for me to look up wondering why the doors hadn't opened and just a few more seconds for me to realize why they didn't open. It was then that the lady who happened to walk up behind me spoke up and said, "Hun, you have to push it open." We both started laughing and walked out to our cars.

Here's the thing, and this is what kills me, I opened the door to get in the store!
