Costa Rica day 4

It's not surprising that we started the day off with a case of the grumps. Hahaha. It has been a busy few days and we are tired.

After breakfast we made our way from the Arenal region to the Guanacaste region. We said goodbye to the humidity and hello to an unpaved road. Talk about rough and off the beaten path! Our driver is fantastic and somehow manages to get us around curves, corners and very narrow passages with ease. I have found myself holding on quite often.

On the way we stopped at a 1 room school house where we met 12 students ranging from grades 1-6. We didn't really spend much time there because they were in the middle of classes but it was interesting to see all of them in the same room learning at different levels and the lack of supplies, textbooks, air conditioning, and any other amenities we take for granted in our schools. Gives us something to think about.

Once we made it to Santa Elena we stopped for lunch and spent a few minutes walking around this mountain town. We then loaded the bus for the highlight activity of the trip, zip lining!

With a all the excitement came some disappointment. After everyone suited up it began thundering and lightening so we were delayed. :( Of course, our group should be used to delays by now. Hahah! The delay did allow us to get to meet a new friend, Lola the Macaw. We just fell in love with her. Once the storm passed they were off for the safety briefing and lesson on how to brake. There were several people who were super nervous but they all suited up and took off. The zip lining was an obstacle course that took everyone all around the mountain. We ended up on 12 legs of the course and there were lots of "can we go again"? It was a great way to spend the afternoon since being cooped up on the bus all morning.

Our hotel tonight is a mountain retreat! We are surrounded by nature and it's super quiet up here. The views are super gorgeous and it has a pool that the kids just had to get in before dinner. Anytime there are an extra few minutes, right?!

Tomorrow will be an easy day, thank goodness because I am EXHAUSTED!
