Book Summary

From the New York Times bestselling author of Collide and Pulse comes a gritty new novel about a shattered young woman who unexpectedly falls for two best friends.
They were a storm I never saw coming, an unforeseen heartbreak on the edge of a dangerous cliff.
Amber Moretti’s life changes in the span of minutes. An orphaned outsider, she is desperate to start fresh the moment she walks onto campus. In the time it takes to cross the university’s dining hall, she meets two men who bring color, air, and light to her darkened world.
They became my addiction, each a needle to my next hit, my high.
Brock Cunningham’s appeal is dizzying, a potent force Amber can’t deny. A green-eyed smooth talker, he instantly attracts Amber. It doesn’t take long for him to consume her every thought, her every breath.
Ryder Ashcroft, a blue-eyed, tattooed, and pierced bad boy, turns Amber off immediately—that is, until he kisses her, stealing a piece of her heart, her soul.
They were as opposite as fire and ice, yet I ached for them equally.
Never knowing she could be broken down in so many unexpectedly beautiful yet petrifying ways, Amber finds herself falling for both men.
Immoral? Maybe. I say undeniable. Uncontained.

But one devastating event changes everything, shattering each of their lives...and Amber isn’t sure she can recover from it.

King Review

Holy WOW!

I really do not know what else to say. King was an exceptional book.

King is an ALPHA on steroids!

Doe is definitely not her name. She has "foot in mouth" disease and she is strong despite her circumstances.

I love the push and pull between Doe and King. I think that their relationship is stronger because neither of them gives up who they are to be with each other.

There are twists and one twist the author lets you know about early on but gives NO details. You sit in anticipation wondering what King knows. The other twists you never see coming and when they happened I WTFed out loud.

It is a cliffhanger and no HEA yet. I will most definitely be waiting "not so patiently"  for the release of Tyrant.

Homeless, hungry and desperate enough to steal, Doe has no memories of who she is or where she comes from.

A notorious career criminal just released from prison, King is someone you don’t want to cross unless you’re prepared to pay him back in blood, sweat, pu$$y or a combination of all three.

King’s future hangs in the balance. Doe’s is written in her past. When they come crashing together, they will have to learn that sometimes in order to hold on, you have to first let go.

Warning: This book contains graphic violence, consensual and nonconsensual sex, drug use, abuse, and other taboo subjects and adult subject matter. Although originally slated to be a standalone, KING is now a two part series.

Excerpt #1
“I hate the way you made me feel. Well, most of the time.” I spat. I was tired of dancing around the truth. “I hate the confusion you bring into my already confused life. I need this back and forth shit to end.” I took a deep breath. “I can’t take it anymore. You like me. You hate me. You like me. You want to kill me. You want to fuck me. You want me to stay. You want me to live.  My head is fucking spinning over here.” My buzz faded faster than the setting sun. "You should leave. I don't want you here," I added.
"I know. I don't care." King said.
"Oh, I’m fully aware that you don’t care. That I know.”
"You don't know shit, Pup." King barked.
"Oh yeah? So you didn't just spend the entire night at the carnival all over me, saying sweet shit to me, making me feel like this stupid thing between us is something more than just a stupid thing, only to whip out your dick with someone else the very first chance you got? Go back to the fucking house, King. Go back to that girl. I hope she's everything you wanted.”
"I can't," King said evenly.
"Why not? Seemed easy for you before."
"Because, Pup, I can’t because I don't want to. No matter how hard I try to fight this, I'm drawn to you. You think I like this back and forth shit? You think you’re the only one who’s fucking confused here?" He shook his head like he couldn't believe the words that were coming out of his mouth. "I'm drawn to you," he repeated turning my chin up to him.
“What do you expect? Am I supposed to fall at your feet and thank you for being ‘drawn to me’?” Not only was he confusing, he was fucking infuriating. "Drawn to me? You're drawn to me! Well, let me just take off my fucking panties then, and let's do this shit. Yeah, you were really drawn to me. Tell me something, KING. Do most first dates end with the guy getting sucked off by another girl? I mean, I've never been on one, so you tell me. I could be wrong here. Because if the answer is yes, then this date has gone fucking swimmingly!"
"I'm...FUCK! “You think you know everything but you don’t. All you do is run those pretty lips of yours and expect me to be able to just give into you!” King threw his hands up in the air. “You make me fucking crazy, you know that!" he shouted.
"I make YOU crazy? How the fuck do you think I feel? Most of the time I don't know if you want to kill me or fuck me!" I screamed, every single word he spoke ignited my anger until it wasn’t something I could even begin to hold back.
King had the audacity to actually smile. He leaned forward and whispered seductively against my cheek, "Can't I want both, Pup?"
I pulled back and stood up.
"NO! You can't! And stop calling me, Pup. It's a stupid fucking name. I'm not your fucking pet!"
I paced the dock. My rage was at a boiling point I couldn't turn off. This was his fault. He’d made me into this lunatic.
King stood and grabbed my face with both hands, forcing me to look at him. "Yes you are," he said, as he lowered his lips and brushed them softly against mine in a move so gentle, so unlike him, it took me a few seconds before I registered what was happening.
Then, my anger returned, in full force. Using both my hands, I pushed against his chest until he had no choice but to release me.
"Fuck you! You don't want to keep me!" I shouted over my shoulder as I made my way to the front of the house and started down the gravel driveway. "Do you think I’m stupid? You wouldn't be getting your jollies while I'm in the next room if it was me you wanted."
A large hand grabbed my shoulder and spun me around.
"Let go of me!" I shouted.

"Listen, Pup. I’ve tried it your way. I tried gentle just now, but you didn't listen. Now, we're going to do it my way, and you're going to fucking listen. Don't make me have to cuff you again." He warned.

I come from a family of fighters. I always thought I’d follow in their shadows, becoming unstoppable in the ring. That changed the day I saved the life of a woman I loved, but could never have.
My brother hailed me as a hero, and my reward was a wheelchair.
Paralyzed, my life became an inescapable nightmare.
 Until I met her.
Ash Mabie had a heart-stopping smile and a laugh that numbed the rage and resentment brewing inside of me. She showed me that even the darkest night still had stars, and it didn’t matter one bit that you had to lie in the weeds to see them.
I was a jaded asshole who fell for a girl with a knack for running away. I couldn’t even walk but I would have spent a lifetime chasing her.
Now, I’m on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.
Fighting the shadows of our past.
Fighting to reclaim my future.
Fighting for her.

Fighting Shadows

Prologue
Ash
“Where the fuck have you been?” a man’s voice growled as soon as I entered the conference room.
My eyes flashed to his for only a single second before I recognized them. The door had barely clicked behind me but I already wanted nothing more than to bolt. My heart raced and my mouth dried.
I had to get out of there.
“Um…” I stalled, giving myself time to formulate a plan.
“Sit. Down,” he ordered, pushing out the chair next to him, but there was no way I was getting that close.
“I’m good,” I said, taking a step backwards toward the door.
“Don’t even think about it,” he snapped. “I swear to God, if you so much as open that door…” His words may have trailed off, but the threat was clearly stated.
I swallowed hard, and slowly walked to the chair farthest away from him, perching on the very edge—waiting for just the right moment to escape.
He looked down at the name badge around my neck and quirked an eyebrow.
“Victoria?”
“You can call me Tori if it’s easier.” I tried to fake a smile, but it only seemed to infuriate him. He took several calming breaths, which did nothing to dampen the blaze brewing in his angry eyes.
“I’ve been looking for you, Ash.” He snarled my name.
“Oh, yeah? Well, mystery solved. Here I am.” I pushed back to my feet, but was halted when his fist pounded against the table. I jumped as my whole body flinched from the surprise.
When the room fell silent, I slowly looked back up to find him staring at me with a murderous glare. Even sitting down I could tell he was huge, and as he held my gaze, the tense muscles in his neck and shoulders strained against the cotton of his grey Henley. He blinked at me for several seconds before finding his voice again.
“You live in a homeless shelter,” he stated definitively, as if the words told a story all of their own.
And maybe they did.
“I work at a homeless shelter,” I quickly corrected.
Only he corrected me just as fast. “In exchange for a permanent place to live…In. A. Homeless. Shelter.” He enunciated every single syllable.
I looked away, because it was the truth.
A truth that I hated.
But the God’s honest truth nonetheless.
Tears welled in my eyes and I battled to keep them at bay.
My life was hard, but him being there made it infinitely harder. If I could just escape that room, I could disappear again. It wasn’t ideal, but neither was him showing up.
“I want you to leave.” I lied with all the false courage I could muster.
“I can’t do that. You stole something of mine.”
“Look, I don’t have your book anymore.”
A knowing smirk lifted one side of his mouth. “Liar,” he whispered, reaching into the chair beside him, revealing the tattered book and ceremoniously dropping it on the table.
My eyes went wide, and without a conscious thought, I dove across the table after it.
 That was mine.
Not even he could have it.
Just as quickly as the book appeared, he snatched it away and grabbed my wrist.
I slid off the table and tried to pull my arm from his grasp. It was a worthless attempt though because even if he had suddenly released me, his blue eyes held me frozen in place.
“Three fucking years,” he seethed.
“I had to,” I squeaked out as the tears streamed down my cheeks.
“Three. Fucking. Years, Ash. You took something that belonged to me.” He released my arm and pushed to his feet.
My mouth fell open and a loud gasp escaped as he took two impossible steps forward.
Pinning me against the wall with his hard body, he lifted a hand to my throat and glided it up until his thumb stroked over my bottom lip. Using my chin, he turned my head, and dragged his nose up my neck, stopping at my ear.
Sucking in a deep breath, he released it on a gravelly demand. “And I want her back.”
My breath hitched.
I’d waited years to hear those words.
If only I could have trusted them.
“Flint, please.”

Neighbor from Hell series by R.L. Mathewson

Holy WOW! I discovered this series last week and in roughly 7 days I read all six books in the series!

To be honest, I was a bit leery to begin the first book. I have an anxiety issue and reading, watching or being involved in highly confrontational situations makes me extremely nervous but these books were not what I was expecting.

I found myself laughing quite a bit. The Bradford boys are super funny and the pranks that are played made the books fun to read. The fact that these boys fight over food and are banned from just about every restaurant in their area, not to mention the fact that they are banned from Las Vegas and Disney World is a riot.

The author didn't make the girls out to be weak either. I hate it when authors write the females in their books to be weak women who NEED to be rescued and saved and can not do it without a man. Some of the women in these books start out passive but they discover their strength and fight back. Several of the women are strong from the beginning.

The sex scenes are HOT HOT HOT!

I absolutely Love this series! Can't wait for another book to come out!
